Alternative Dental Terms

Dentistry has many different terms that can all mean the same thing. Just for fun, let’s take a look at some of the terms that Dr. Pate or others may use to discuss your teeth, mouth, and smile.

Alternative Names for Teeth

Your teeth have different shapes and different purposes. When Dr. Pate is examining your mouth, he may use specific names for your teeth. If he uses any of the following terms, they all generally mean “teeth.”

  • Pearly Whites
  • Bicuspids
  • Molars
  • Third molars
  • Wisdom teeth
  • Canines
  • Incisors
  • Chompers/Choppers
  • Fangs
  • Tusks

Alternative Names for Your Mouth

Your mouth is the home to your teeth. You use your mouth to eat, chew, and speak. Your jaws help form the shape of your mouth and move flexibly to help you function. Here are some other words for your mouth and chewing.

  • Bite
  • Chomper
  • Kisser
  • Jaws
  • Masticate
  • Grinder
  • Crunch

Alternative Names for Your Smile

A smile is very important to your overall appearance and confidence. Here are some other expressions that mean the same thing as smiling.

  • Beam
  • Grin
  • Smirk
  • Laugh

Alternative Dental Terms

Many dental problems can be controlled with alternative treatment options. Here are some of the substitute names associated with common dental treatments.

If you know the different names associated with your mouth, you can better understand what Dr. Pate is discussing at your appointment. However, if there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask any questions or address any concerns.

To keep your fangs and kisser beaming, contact Dr. Pate at Dentistry in Buckhead at (404) 266-9424 to request an appointment.  We welcome patients from Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Vinings, Atlanta, and the surrounding areas.
