Dentist BuckheadCHICAGO (August 2007) - The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that Peter A. Pate, DDS, of Atlanta, received the prestigious Fellowship Award during the AGD’s largest Convocation ceremony, a commencement celebration that recognizes AGD members’ commitment to excellence in dental education. Held at the AGD’s Annual Meeting & Exhibits on June 30 in San Diego, Dr. Pate accepted this award along with more than 350 other recipients.

The Fellowship Award is presented to dentists looking to provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining current in their profession. In order to receive this award, Dr. Pate completed 500 hours of continuing dental education, passed a comprehensive written exam and fulfilled three years of continuing membership with the AGD. As a recipient of this award, Dr. Pate has joined an elite group of more than 14,000 members of the dental community who understand that great smiles and good oral health for their patients are the result of going above and beyond basic requirements.  The Fellowship Award symbolizes excellence in the dental profession and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment for Dr. Pate,” says AGD President Vincent Mayher, DMD, MAGD. “By completing the rigorous requirements to become a Fellow, Dr. Pate goes above and beyond basic licensure requirements in his state to keep his practice on the cutting edge. He takes extra dental education to provide his patients with the very best in dental care. This award truly distinguishes Dr. Pate from others in the dental community.”

Dr. Pate graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1982 and currently practices dentistry in Atlanta. In addition to the AGD, Dr. Pate is a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Northern District Dental Society, Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Hinman Dental Society and the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation.

Dr. Pate is married for 15 years and has one son.

The AGD is a professional association of more than 35,000 general dentists dedicated to staying up-to-date in the profession through continuing education. Founded in 1952, the AGD has grown to become the world’s second largest dental association, which is the only association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists.

More than 772,000 persons are employed directly in the field of general dentistry. A general dentist is the primary care provider for patients of all ages and is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, management and overall coordination of services related to patients’ oral health needs.
