Sedation Dentistry - Helping You Relax
For patients who feel particularly nervous at the dentist, we may suggest sedation dentistry. Depending on your goals, concerns, and medical history, Dr. Pate will suggest the right method of sedation for you. Our sedation dentistry options include:

  • Nitrous oxide - Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas that encourages relaxation. The effects of nitrous oxide subside immediately, so you will be able to drive yourself home if this is the only sedation you receive.
  • Oral conscious sedation - With oral conscious sedation, Dr. Pate will prescribe a dose of anti-anxiety medication that banishes fears and induces euphoria. Take the medication prior to your appointment. Once you're comfortable, we will begin turning back the clock on your smile. We'll monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure, and you will be able to respond to our requests. After oral conscious sedation, you will wake up refreshed, with little or no memory of the actual dental procedure. A friend or family member will need to take you home. Because of your relaxed state, Dr. Pate can successfully perform extensive repair work in as little as one or two visits.
